He Hears Our Cries by Heather Duvall

Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer: from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.
Psalm 61:1-3

My husband Tom and I have been married for 10 years. In the past few years we have had seasons of sickness, financial challenges, and family difficulty. In the midst of it all, I found myself in tears just not knowing how God was going to work it out.

I was overwhelmed.

It was easy for me, as I looked around at life circumstances, to allow the lies of the enemy to creep in and sow seeds of despair.

God makes a way for us in seasons where doubt and sadness can be overwhelming. It may not be what we imagine or anticipate, but He will accomplish His purposes through our pain.

Satan loves to speak narratives into our head that make us doubt how circumstances are gonna play out. Jesus says in John 8:44, he was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is liar and the father of lies.

Even still, God shows up and provides for us in the way that will bring Him the most honor and glory.

In our tough season, He…
sent messengers to speak truth into me.
provided financial provision and strength when mine was waning.
prompted me to open my bible and let Him speak to me through scripture.
heard my cries (and He hears yours, too).

How is He making a way for you today?

Prayer:

Dear Jesus, when I am feeling overwhelmed by tough seasons that seem to come one right after the other, help me to lean on Your faithfulness even when I don't see it or feel it.

Dig Deeper:
Psalm 62:8:
Trust in him at all times, your people: Pour out your hear before him, God is a refuge for us.

Psalm 130:5:
I will wait for the Lord, my soul waits. And in his word I do hope. He will make a way for you, he will quiet your soul.

Discussion Questions:
1. How has God made a way for you in the past?

2. How does that comfort you in your sadness or overwhelm?
