Episode 271. Fall In Love with Your Lane with Holley Gerth

Rebecca is joined by bestselling author Holley Gerth to chat all about Chapter 12 of Do the Thing: Gospel-Centered Goals, Gumption, and Grace for the Go-Getter Girl!

Holley Gerth loves humans, words, and good coffee. She's the Wall Street Journal bestselling author of many books, including The Powerful Purpose of Introverts and What Your Mind Needs for Anxious Moments. In addition to being a life coach and counselor with a master of science degree in mental health, Holley also cofounded the groundbreaking online community (in)courage, cohosts the More Than Small Talk podcast, and is co-owner of The Potentialist Agency. Rebecca and Holley chatted about:

  • Hebrews 12:1-2 says, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."

Sometimes, what we have to lay aside is our comparison of other people in their lanes. What has helped Holley do this in our industry?

  • 1 Peter 2:9 says, " But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light."

How do these truths help us as we faithfully live out our calling?

  • 2 Corinthians 2:15-17 says, "For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things? For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God's word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ."

We are the aroma of Christ to those who are being saved...how does that encourage Holley as she uses her unique gifts and talents for the glory of God?

  • As we fall in love with our lane and obediently take next steps, rejection is a reality we will all experience at times. How has God met Holley in the midst of her moments of rejection?

  • What role does community play in effectively running in our lane?

  • As those around us experience a win, maybe something we also desire, what helps to keep a healthy perspective?

  • Holley’s best piece of advice for the girl listening who desperately wants to see her calling from a gospel-centered perspective?
